STARKWHITE & 1301SW | Sydney Contemporary
10.09 - 14.09

1301SW and STARKWHITE’s joint presentation for the 2025 edition of Sydney Contemporary will take the idea of “tracing” as its overarching theme. Whether it be conceptually rooted in research — to follow a lineage or uncover something — or more visible in both gesture and technique — say the pattern-like nature of a work or the literal tracing of an object, our presentation will highlight this rich idea through a number of artist’s practices.
As a part of the fair, Installation Contemporary presents major artworks beyond the gallery booth, engaging with the distinctive architecture and atmosphere of Carriageworks. For this year’s Installation Contemporary, 1301SW and STARKWHITE present a major new work by Jonny Niesche, Sound and Vision (Reflect what you are, in case you don’t know) (2025). Building on recent collaborations with Mark Pritchard, these installations utilise low-frequency sound and vibration to subtly activate the body and space, creating a synesthetic encounter with Niesche’s paintings.
